THE MASIKUNA JOURNEY

Masikuna is a Melbourne-based Andean ensemble dedicated to the powerful, ancestral music of the Indigenous cultures of South America.

Formed by musicians with nearly three decades of international performance experience, Masikuna brings together master performers of traditional Incan instruments, including panpipes (zampona), quena, charango, bombo and Andean percussion, blending authentic folk repertoire with contemporary South American influences.

The group performs as an intimate trio or expands to a six-piece ensemble, creating a dynamic live experience that ranges from ceremonial and atmospheric to rhythmically explosive.

Collectively, the members of Masikuna have performed at major national and international festivals including:

  • Moomba Festival

  • Port Fairy Folk Festival

  • WOMADelaide

  • Malaysia Rainforest World Music Festival

  • Singapore Music Festival

  • Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show

  • Royal Melbourne Show

  • Tamworth Music Festival

  • Childers Festival

  • Apollo Bay Music Festival

  • Commonwealth Games Sydney Village Shows

  • Australian Open

  • South Africa Multicultural Tour

The musicians have also performed at Carols by Candlelight at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and were part of an ARIA-nominated World Music act (2000).

Masikuna is built on authenticity, heritage and virtuosity. Their performances are not simply concerts, they are cultural journeys that honour the spirit, rhythm and resilience of the Andes.
